Endicott Falls To Colby-Sawyer In Non-Conference Action

BEVERLY, Mass.- The Endicott women’s tennis team played host to NEAC foe Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday evening and fell by a final score of 6-3. The loss snaps Endicott’s seven match win streak and sees the Gulls fall to 7-2 overall while Colby-Sawyer improves to 8-1 overall and extends their current win streak to five.

The loss snaps Endicott's seven match win streak and sees the Gulls fall to 7-2 overall. Colby-Sawyer improves to 8-1 overall and extends their current win streak to five.

In doubles play, Colby-Sawyer's number three pairing of Maddy Gemerek (Balston Spa, N.Y.) and Lauren Blanchard (Agawam, Mass.) started the scoring by claiming an 8-5 win.

Endicott's number two pairing of Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) and Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) notched the only doubles victory for the Gulls with an 8-5 win over their Charger counterparts, while the point at the top doubles pairings would be the hardest fought, with Colby-Sawyer's Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) and Ashley Woodside (Hampden, Maine) edging out a 9-7 victory to give the visitors a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

In singles action, Colby-Sawyer's Ramsay (No. 1), Woodside (No. 2), Evelyn Miller (Smithfield, R.I.) (No. 4) and Blanchard (No. 6) all won their matchups to claim the 6-3 victory.

The Gulls received singles victories from Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) at number three by scores of 6-2, 6-4 and Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) at number five in three sets by scores of 6-0, 4-6, 10-6 to finish the Endicott scoring.

Ramsay, Colby-Sawyer's top singles player and half of their top doubles team became the all-time wins leader in Charger women's tennis history, moving to 109 wins with her 2-0 performance on the day.
With their win at No. 2 doubles, Endicott's pairing of Andreasen and Barnett remained perfect on the season when they play together, moving to 6-0 overall, and 5-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Rhodes remained perfect in singles action, also moving to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 at No. 5 singles.
Freter improved to 2-0 on the season at #2 singles for the Gulls as she improved her season record to 7-2 overall.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Gulls have a pivotal week ahead as the Gulls have three straight matches against conference opponents before CCC Tournament play begins on October 6. Endicott travels to Eastern Nazarene Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. start before returning home to host cross-town rival Gordon at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and Wentworth on Saturday, October 3 at 12:00 p.m. as part of Homecoming weekend.

Colby-Sawyer returns to action on Saturday when they play host to Lyndon State in NEAC action before taking to the road for their last five matches of the season.
