Women’s Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season At Elmer Swanson Classic
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Endicott women's track and field team competed at the J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic on Saturday evening, hosted by Wesleyan University at The Andersen Track.
Abby Griffith (Franklin, Mass.) and Alexa Suchy (Guilford, Conn.) highlighted the Gulls' efforts in the outdoor season opener.
Griffith bested a field of 10 competitors in the high jump by clearing 5 feet and 0.25 inches, despite a five-way tie at that height.
After all five jumpers failed to clear the bar at 5-2.25, Griffith was determined the winner of the event as the sophomore took the fewest number of attempts leading up to the tie.
Griffith passed on two heights (4-6.25, 4-8.25) before clearing 4-10.25 and 5.25 on her initial attempts.
Meanwhile, Suchy earned a runner-up finish out of 23 competitors in the 5,000m run behind an NCAA Division III New England Championship provisional qualifier and personal record time of 18:37.04.
The performance marked one of 14 PRs, six top-5 finishes, and five D3 New England provisional qualifying times/marks on the afternoon for the Gulls.
