Endicott tops Anna Maria 3-0 in season opener

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women’s volleyball squad took to the court at MacDonald Gymnasium for their season and home opener against The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opponent Anna Maria College and defeated the AmCats 3-0 (25-6, 25-13, 25-12) to start off the 2010 season 1-0.
BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women’s volleyball squad took to the court at MacDonald Gymnasium for their season and home opener against The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opponent Anna Maria College and defeated the AmCats 3-0 (25-6, 25-13, 25-12) to start off the 2010 season 1-0.
Leading the Blue and Green on the attack was freshman middle blocker \#Callie Dolan\# (Westford, Mass.) who finished the match with nine kills on 14 attacks. Teammates \#Falyn Torelli\# (Pelham, N.Y.) and \#Elyse Barbour\# (Greenville, R.I.) each had seven kills in the straight set victory. Barbour added two block assists on the defensive side of the net.
Finding her teammates often in the match was junior transfer and setter \#Sarah Allshouse\# (Berthoud, Colo.) who dished out 25 assists in her Gulls debut. Allshouse even chipped in on the attack with four kills without registering an error and four service aces.
Anna Maria’s efforts were led by junior outside hitter Nichole Robbie (Bellingham, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Alex Rodriguez (Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico) who each had two kills and four digs. Robbie and Rodriguez were the lone bright spot for an AmCats squad that allowed an overall .355 hit percentage for Endicott.
Endicott senior \#Ally Murphy\# (Gilford, N.H.) proved to be an efficient server for the Gulls as she led all servers with five aces and sophomore \#Ashley Norley\# (Sudbury, Mass.) was presence defensively with a match-high 14 digs.
The Blue and Green will return to the court for action on Saturday, September 4th at the Gordon Invitational in Wenham. Endicott will face MIT at 9 am, North Central College at 11 am, and Muhlenberg College at 1 pm. Anna Maria will next compete in a tri-match with Newbury College and Albertus Magnus College on September 4th.
