Women’s Volleyball Edges Wentworth In Five Sets; Helenbrook Eclipses 1,000 Career Kills
MEDFORD, Mass. — The Endicott women's volleyball team defeated Wentworth, 3-2, by scores of 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 21-25, and 15-13 on Tuesday evening at Tufts University.
Highlighting the Conference of New England (CNE) five-set thriller was Hadley Helenbrook (Atlanta, Ga.), as the junior outside hitter became the 10th student-athlete in program history to join the 1,000 kill club.
Helenbrook nearly doubled the 12 kills she needed to reach the milestone, producing a match-high 23 putaways alongside 16 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.
Ava Grace Dresback (Pawcatuck, Conn.) also contributed 21 kills and 10 digs, while Angelina Fitzharris (Webster, N.Y.) rounded out the attack with a career-high 13 kills (.323).
Hannah Maguire (San Jose, Calif.) ran the offense via a match-high 53 assists.
Defensively, Abby Downs (Billerica, Mass.) paced both teams with 22 digs, while Maguire chipped in with 14 total.
Tonight's match featured 22 ties (3-6-1-9-3) and 11 lead changes (1-4-0-5-1).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott improved to 28-2 all-time against Wentworth (three straight victories).
- Second five-setter ever in the all-time series (1-1 overall).
- Wentworth forced the fifth set with back-to-back match-high hitting percentages of .316 and .333 in the third and fourth sets, respectively.
- Dresback fell one kill shy of tying her career-high in the category.
- Helenbrook has compiled 109 kills (21.8 average) in five career matches against Wentworth.
- Set five featured five kills from Dresback and four more via Helenbrook.
