Gulls run hard at Trinity College Invitational

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Endicott College Gulls faced a tough group of competition as the men's and women's cross country teams both finished in 11th place on Saturday. The men's team came in last while the women's team was able to finish 11th out of 14 teams at the Trinity College Invitational held Saturday in Hartford, Conn.
On the men's side, freshman Greg Payne (North Attleboro, Mass.) was able to finish as the top TCCC runner in the field for the second week in a row. Payne was able to finish the 5k (3.14m) race in 17:44, good for a 45th place showing out of 148 runners. The rest of the men's team was able to round out the field with a strong showing from Sam Turner (Portland, Maine) who posted a time of 20:23 while Brendan Mitchell (Chelmsford, Mass.) ran a 20:34, good for 124th and 127th place respectively.
For the women, sophomore Megan McGraw (Georgia, Vt.) finished as the top Commonwealth Coast Conference runner posting a time of 19:01 which earned her a 62nd place finish out of 175 runners in the 4k run. McGraw was helped by freshman Brittaney Plante (Nashua, N.H.) and senior Nicole Prokop (Montgomery, Mass.) who ran races of 19:08 and 19:28 respectively. Their finishes of 67th and 74th helped the Gulls place ahead of Southern Connecticut State, St. Joseph's, and co-TCCC member Curry College.
UMass-Lowell was able to win the men's side of the race while Michael Burnstein of Trinity College was able to win the race individually with a time of 16:21. Meanwhile, Stephanie McNamara of Tufts University was able to win the individual race in 16:31 and led the Jumbos to the team victory.
The Blue and Green return to the trails this Saturday when they travel to Biddeford, Maine and run at the University of New England. The women will run at 10:45 a.m. with the men to follow at 11:30 a.m.
