Endicott places second and ninth at WNEC Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Endicott College women's and men's cross country teams finished in second and ninth place respectively at Saturday's WNEC Invitational held in Springfield, Massachusetts. Senior Nicole Prokop (Montgomery, Mass.) led the Gulls with her third place finish while Greg Payne (North Attleboro, Mass.) led the men's team with his ninth place showing.
On the women's side, Prokop paced the Gulls to a second place team finish. Her time of 20:13 allowed her to finish in third place, just one minute behind the race's first-place runner. Junior Megan McGraw (Georgia, Vt.) finished in ninth place overall with a time of 20:49 while Brittaney Plante (Nashua, N.H.) clocked in at 21:15, good for a 20th place finish.
Endicott finished in second place overall with 88 points, just behind the first place team of Salve Regina who had 87 points. Individually, Castleton State's Maggie Klein won the individual title with her time of 19:13. Lindsey Segal-Bator of Pine Manor College finished in second with a time of 19:59 and Prokop rounded out the top three finishers.
For the men, Greg Payne continues the strong start to his career by running the 8k course in a time of 27:50 placing him ninth in the 129 runner field. Sophomore Brendan Mitchell (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Sam Turner (Portland, Maine) finished back to back in 53rd and 54th place respectively. The two finished a mere :05 seconds apart as Mitchell edged out Turner with at time of 30:57.
The Gulls as a team placed ninth overall out of 16 teams. American International College won the team race with a total of 71 points. Bard College came in second with 110 while the host school of Western New England College finished off the top three with 112 points. Victor Kemboi who ran unattached won the individual crown with a time of 25:08 and AIC's Brian Mulwo finished second at 26:31. Norwich University's John Pomeroy placed third with his time of 26:44.
The Blue and Green wrap up their regular season schedule on Saturday when they travel to rival Gordon College for the Gordon Invitational. The women will run at 12:00 p.m. while the men take off at 1:00 p.m.
