Nov. 1, 2008
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Endicott College men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their TCCC seasons with third and sixth place finishes at the TCCC Championships held on Saturday on the campus of Western New England College. Senior Nicole Prokop (Montgomery, Mass.) led the women's team with a sixth place finish while freshman Greg Payne (North Attleboro, Mass.) led the men's team with his 13th place run.
On the women's side, Prokop ran the 6k race in 24:44, finishing seconds behind a slew of Roger Williams runners. Freshman Brittaney Plante (Nashua, N.H.) came in 12th place with a time of 25:13 while fellow freshman Kelly Cameron (Barrington, R.I.) ran the course in 25:43 allowing her to come in 19th place.
With the strong placings, the Gulls finished in third place overall behind Roger Williams and Gordon. Gordon's Hannah Matthews (Castle Rock, Colo.) won the individual title while Roger Williams had four runners round out the top five including Emily Bome (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Susan Thaxter (Pepperell, Mass.) who placed second and third respectively.
Greg Payne was able to continue to lead the Gulls on the trails as he finished the 8k race with a 13th place finish and a time of 28:00. A pack of Gulls would be able to take places 48-50 as Sam Turner (Portland, Maine), Brendan Mitchell (Chelmsford, Mass.), and Steve Bouchard (Saratoga, N.Y.) all finished within nine seconds of each other with Turner turning in the best time of the three at 30:42.
Roger Williams was able to win the team event and in the process clinched its eighth straight TCCC Conference Championship in men's cross country. The Hawks took home the top two individual spots as seniors Kevin Clark (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Alex Parulis (East Lyme, Conn.) finished with times of 26:05 and 26:37 respectively.
