BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott field hockey team opened up Conference of New England (CNE) play with a dominant 10-0 win over the University of New England (UNE) on Saturday afternoon at North Field. Tori Swanson (Farmington, Conn.) netted two goals in the match, breaking the program record with 65 goals in her career.
Lily Johnson (Paxton, Mass.) kicked things off with her second goal of the season at the 8:39 mark of the first quarter.
Swanson and Sabrina Brunet (South Burlington, Vt.) each potted a goal before the end of the first, leaving the Gulls with a comfortable 3-0 lead after one.
They added two more in the second courtesy of another Swanson tally and Gracie Bolduc's (Weare, N.H.) first score of the season (fourth career).
Up 5-0 at the break, the Blue and Green continued to pour it on in the second half.
Two Maddy Dengler (Winchester, Mass.) goals, a Reagan Hicks (Barnstable, Mass.) marker, and a Riley Perkins (Lakeville, Mass.) penalty stroke conversion made it 9-0 through three, and then Abby Antonelli (Worcester, Mass.) drilled a fourth-quarter tally to put the Gulls up by double digits.
Faith Minickene (Madison, Conn.) improved to 3-1 on the season after her seven-save shutout effort.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Dengler's two tallies and assist gave her 102 career points. She is the ninth Gull ever to cross the 100 career point plateau.
- 10-0 is the largest margin of victory in the all-time series. It is also just the 10th time ever that the Blue and Green have scored double digit goals in a contest.
- Minickene's shutout is the fourth of her career (second this season).
- Antonelli has scored a goal in each contest this season.
- First career game-winner for Johnson.
- The Gulls outworked the Nor'Easters 21-6 in the penalty corner category. They earned 11 of those in just the third quarter.
