NCAA TOURNAMENT: Endicott Walks Off Against Babson, 2-1

BANGOR, Maine — Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Endicott freshman catcher Meghan Connor (St. Albans, Vt.) ripped a high fastball into center field to give the Gulls a 2-1 walk-off victory over Babson on Saturday morning at O'Keefe Field.

Carly Marchitto (Orange, Conn.) initiated the walk-off win when she punched a leadoff double down the right field line.

From there, Annie Siemasko (Newburyport, Mass.) pinch ran for Marchitto, while Adrianna Favreau (Tewksbury, Mass.) was intentionally walked and took second via defensive indifference to set the stage for Connor's late-game heroics.

Today's game started at the top of the fourth inning since it was halted last night due to darkness. 

Despite the wrinkle in the contest, Endicott starting pitcher Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.) stepped up to the task when her team needed her the most throwing 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball in the obscure no-decision. 

Hamill scattered five hits in the interrupted outing, while also issuing four free passes and striking out two in her 11th appearance of the season (2nd in the NCAA Tournament this week).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• Endicott improved to 12-10-1 against Babson with today's victory.
• The Gulls have won three in a row versus the Beavers dating back to 4/24/2019.
• Hanchuk entered the game in the sixth with one out and runners at second and third, but induced a ground out to third and a pop up to herself to keep the game tied, at the time.
• Babson also had the go-ahead run at second in the seventh, but Hanchuk was unfazed as she recorded the final out on a fly out to center to pave the way for the walk-off win.
• Favreau tied the game in the fifth with a one out bases loaded sacrifice fly to center for her 32nd RBI on the season (second-most on team).
• Keelin Spencer (San Jose, Calif.) notched two singles to register her second straight multi-hit game in the NCAA Tournament.
• Marchitto notched her fourth multi-hit game of the season with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate today.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (20-3) will tentatively play at 2 PM (opponent TBD). Babson sees its 2021 season come to a close at 15-3 overall.
