Women's Basketball Downs Wentworth, 70-39
BOSTON, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team knocked off Wentworth, 70-39, in Saturday afternoon's Conference of New England (CNE) matchup from inside Tansey Gymnasium.
Aleah Bracey (New Bedford, Mass.) led the Gulls with her 15 points (6-9 FG, 2-2 FT, 1-4 3PT) on the afternoon. She also picked up three boards, two steals and an assist in the win.
Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) filled up the stat sheet with a 10-point (5-8 FG), six-assist, four-rebound, and three-steal performance over just 22 minutes of play.
The remaining starting contingent of Tenley Wallin (Danbury, Conn.), Sofia Mazzotta (Billerica, Mass.), and Mia McGarrity (Ridgefield, Conn.) combined to score 14 points in the win, while Avery Brown (Canton, Conn.) and Ceilagh Harrington (Chelmsford, Mass.) each chipped in eight points from off the bench.
The Gulls opened up on a 20-2 run, capped off by a Lily Cooper (Southington, Conn.) drive and finish at the rim.
They headed into the second quarter with a commanding 24-4 lead, and despite a closer second quarter (12-10 Endicott), the Gulls still headed into the break up 36-14.
The second half featured more dominance from the Gulls, as they took the third frame by a 20-17 score and the fourth by 14-8.
Some late fourth quarter scoring from Cooper, Wallin, Brown, Harrington, and Caroline Waisnor (Lynnfield, Mass.) capped off the big afternoon for the Blue and Green.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott leads the all-time series with a dominant record of 40-3 against Wentworth.
- The Gulls have won 18 consecutive matchups against the Leopards, dating back to 1/14/16.
- First wire-to-wire win this season for Endicott.
- Harrington's eight points set a career high.
- Skylar Barton (Seymour, Conn.), Kyra Rice (Millis, Mass.), and Waisnor each checked in for their season debuts in the win.
- The Blue and Green outrebounded the Leopards 44-29. They also outscored them 42-12 in the paint.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (5-5, 2-0 CNE) welcomes Salem State to MacDonald Gymnasium on Saturday, December 13 for a 1 PM non-conference matchup. Wentworth (0-8, 0-3 CNE) hosts MCLA next Saturday for a 1 PM non-conference contest.
