Women's Basketball Knocks Off Curry, 60-45
BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team defeated Curry, 60-45, in Tuesday evening's Conference of New England (CNE) matchup from the Katz Gymnasium.
Tricia Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) turned in a 16-point (7-10 FG, 2-3 3PT), nine-rebound, two-steal effort from the floor, while reigning CNE Player of the Week Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) posted 10 points, seven assists, and four rebounds.
Lily Cooper (Southington, Conn.) rounded out the double-digit scorers with her 11 points (4-8 FG, 3-4 3PT). She also pulled down four boards in her 23 minutes from off the bench.
After a slow start to the first quarter, the Colonels eventually pulled in front and closed the quarter with a slim 12-10 lead.
Then, trailing 15-12 in the second, Wladkowski knocked down a long deuce to start a huge run for the Blue and Green.
A tough drive to the rack from Alyssa Garabedian (Cheshire, Mass.), three consecutive catch-and-shoot triples from Cooper, and a layup from Mia McGarrity (Ridgefield, Conn.) encapsulated the 15-3 spurt to close the half, sending the Gulls to the break with a 27-18 advantage.
Then, a 19-15 third quarter expanded the Gulls' lead to 46-33 heading to the final quarter. 10 points in the frame from Wladkowski highlighted the Gulls' offense.
A steady-paced effort in the fourth led by eight points from Aleah Bracey (New Bedford, Mass.) guided the visitors to their eventual 60-45 win. Bracey shot 3-5 from the field and 2-2 from deep in the fourth to help the Gulls close out the win.
