Shinney Named USBWA National Player of the Week
BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott women's basketball junior guard Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) has been named the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) National Player of the Week, the organization announced on Wednesday evening.
She is the first-ever member of the Endicott women's basketball program to earn USBWA National Player of the Week honors.
Each week, the USBWA selects men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the 11th season that the USBWA has recognized national players of the week from across Division III.
In Endicott's 2-0 week (2-0 CNE), Shinney guided the Gulls with her averages of 17.0 points (11-22 FG, 2-4 3PT), 8.5 assists, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals.
On Wednesday at Gordon, she led the Gulls to a season-high 81 points (81-75 road win) thanks to her 18 points (4-8 FG, 1-2 3PT, 9-17 FT), five dimes, three boards, and four steals.
Then, in Saturday's 75-60 home win against Suffolk, she picked up her second career triple-double with a stat line of 16 points (7-14 FG, 1-2 3PT, 1-4 FT), 13 rebounds, and 12 assists.
She is one of 13 student-athletes in Division III to record a triple-double this season, and one of two to record multiple.
