Women's Basketball Picks Up Road Win At Nichols, 61-40
DUDLEY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team knocked off Nichols, 61-40, in Saturday afternoon's Conference of New England (CNE) matchup from inside Nichols Athletic Center.
Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) flirted with another triple-double, as she logged 15 points (6-15 FG, 3-5 FT), nine assists, six rebounds, two steals, and a block in 36 minutes.
Tricia Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) notched her first career double-double with an 11-point (5-10 FG, 1-1 3 PT), 16-rebound performance.
Tenley Wallin (Danbury, Conn.) and Sofia Mazzotta (Billerica, Mass.) each filled out the stat sheet. Wallin scored seven points (3-9 FG), hauled in five rebounds, and picked up two steals, while Mazzotta accumulated nine points (4-7 FG, 1-2 3PT), six rebounds, two blocks and a steal.
The Blue and Green jumped out to a quick start, outpacing the Bison up and down the court in the first quarter. They closed the first with a 19-11 advantage after leading by as much as 12 (19-7) in the quarter.
Nichols crept back into the game via a 9-3 spurt to open the second quarter, leaving the Gulls up 22-20 with six minutes and change left in the first half.
Out of an Endicott timeout, a tough Mazzotta drive to the rack ended the Bison run, and then Shinney followed up with an and-one finish through contact to put the Gulls back up by seven (27-20).
The Blue and Green continued to stretch the lead, and with 1:37 remaining in the half, Lily Cooper (Southington, Conn.) drained a triple off of Aleah Bracey's (New Bedford, Mass.) feed to put the Gulls up 34-22. That lead remained through the sound of the halftime buzzer.
Out of halftime, the Gulls kept their foot on the gaspedal. An Alyssa Garabedian (Cheshire, Mass.) floater followed up by a Mazzotta catch-and-shoot corner three pushed the lead to 18 (51-33) heading into the fourth.
In a slower paced fourth quarter, Bracey knocked down a triple from the left wing via Shinney's dime that was effectively the dagger, as the Gulls closed out their 61-40 road win just a minute later.
