Women’s Basketball Downs Hartford, 62-54; Shinney Scores 1,000th Career Point
BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's basketball team defeated Hartford, 62-54, in Conference of New England (CNE) action on Saturday afternoon at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Emma Shinney (Wakefield, Mass.) headlined the Gulls, as the junior guard became the 14th student-athlete in program history to reach the 1,000 career point plateau.
She finished the contest with a game-high 19 points (7-18 FG, 0-1 3PT, 5-6 FT), nine rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and a block.
Tricia Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.) and Tenley Wallin (Danbury, Conn.) also scored in double-figures (16 | 12 ) to earn a split in the regular season series against the Hawks.
In the fourth quarter, the Gulls led by as many as 15 points (50-35, 8:16) before Hartford mounted a comeback bid.
The Hawks brought the game within a basket (56-54) with 1:16 to play, but Shinney, Sofia Mazzotta (Billerica, Mass.), and Aleah Bracey (New Bedford, Mass.) closed out the contest with eight unanswered free throws (two each) down the stretch.
