BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's lacrosse team fell to No. 3 nationally ranked Colby, 20-6, in a non-conference tilt at Hempstead Stadium on Tuesday night.
Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.) led the way for Endicott with a hat-trick, while Ava Amara (Southbury, Conn.), Leah Black (Cheshire, Conn.), and Jaira Paine (Granby, Conn.) all recorded solo tallies.
Payton Quirk (Nahant, Mass.) made three saves in the setback.
Endicott jumped out to a 3-1 lead just over five minutes into the contest, forcing the Mules to take a timeout. Smith found the back of the net twice while Black scored the other goal during the scoring frenzy.
No. 3 Colby responded with a 6-0 scoring run and opened up a 7-3 lead at the 7:36 mark of the second quarter, as Paine's goal put an end to the run.
Another 3-0 Mules run was answered by Amara's free-position goal before No. 3 Colby added another goal to take an 11-5 lead going to the break.
Smith completed her hat-trick 57 seconds into the third quarter, but the Mules took control the rest of the way, scoring the last nine goals to secure the road win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Gulls are now 0-10 all-time against Colby.
- Sixth hat-trick this season for Smith.
- Black has now scored at least one goal in every game this season.
- Even in the defeat, Kaitlyn DiLoreto (East Lyme, Conn.) finished with a game-high three caused turnovers.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (10-4) hosts Suffolk in conference action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 16, at 7 PM. No. 3 Colby (11-2) also returns to conference play when they visit No. 25 Williams on Saturday, April 19 at 11 AM.
