Neils' Game-Winner Sends Women's Soccer Past Wentworth, 2-1
BOSTON, Mass. — The Endicott women's soccer team rallied late to knock off Wentworth, 2-1, in Saturday afternoon's Conference of New England (CNE) showdown from Sweeney Field.
Trailing 1-0 in the 81st minute, the Gulls were the benefactors of a misplay by the Wentworth backfield, ultimately capitalizing on an own goal to knot the score at one apiece. Lily Miller (Warwick, R.I.) and Alyssa McColl (Stoughton, Mass.) set up the set piece scoring play off of a corner kick. Miller was able to head up the ball at the front post, where it initially deflected off of some Leopard bodies before trickling into an open net.
Just a few minutes later, Callie Neils (Brentwood, N.H.) gave the Gulls their first lead of the afternoon in the 86th minute. She cleaned up a loose ball in the box and sent a blast into the upper right side of the net for the timely score.
The Blue and Green clung tightly to their 2-1 lead the rest of the way thanks to some lockdown defense and midfield play.
Amanda Cosgrove (Newton, Mass.) picked up a save and moved to 2-4 on the season in the win.
